OCN Accredited courses
Somerset Skills and Learning is a partnership organisation that delivers this Open College Network course.
We run both Level 2 and Level 3 OCN Shibashi courses.
The level 2 Shibashi course is most suitable for someone who would like to start teaching Tai Chi Qigong, the exercise instructor, those working with exercise and relaxation as part of their job role, or Tai Chi instructors who do not possess a qualification.
Level 2 & 3 students pursue the same course - only the assignments require more from a level 3 student. Health professionals are encouraged to pursue the Level 3 course.
Details of the Shibashi Instructor course
-
It provides both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, so giving the candidate a solid base from which they can teach.
-
A private wiki is provided for study of the theoretical aspects of this course. Not used one before? It's easy!
-
Level 3 candidates should have a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology before enrolling on the course.
-
Additional practical sessions are always available if you need help.
-
As the course is delivered mainly online, a DVD of the practical Shibashi work is provided to all candidates at the beginning of the course.
-
There are 3 face to face sessions. These are held at various locations around the county but if you live outside of Somerset, other arrangements can be made for tutor contact.
-
Observation of existing health classes - easily arranged with your tutor. This is a chance to experience an inclusive Shibashi class in practice.
Session 1
-
Covers Shibashi practical work, an introduction to the course, web space and your tutors. Phone tutorials can be arranged for learners outside of the county or for overseas students.
Session 2
-
Allows for personal tutorials and practical work. Again, phone tutorials can be arranged for people who live outside of Somerset if you can send recordings of your Shibashi practical work for correction.
Session 3
-
Is for the final Shibashi practical assessment. Video recordings can be submitted by overseas students.
Our aim is to provide flexible learning that fits into a busy work schedule: in the main there are no set dates for the assignments to be completed.
These Shibashi courses can be completed in
6 to 12 months and once qualified, instructors details are submitted to the Tai Chi & Qigong Health Instructors Register
